Some people find it incredibly difficult to get to sleep in the first place (this is called primary insomnia). Other people wake up multiple times during the night and find it difficult to get back to sleep (this is called middle insomnia). And others wake up very early and are not able to get back to sleep at all (and this is called terminal insomnia).
Whichever you suffer from, insomnia is extremely debilitating, leaving you feeling tired, anxious and emotionally unstable, impairing your ability to react creatively and appropriately to every day situations. It can affect your relationships, your business and your physical health.
The primary causes of insomnia include: psychological factors such as stress, anxiety and depression; physical factors such as pain, hormone changes or any number of medical conditions; and temporary factors such as over use of caffeine or other stimulants, or a major change in one’s environment.
Irrespective of the cause, the most common solution seems to be the use of pharmaceuticals. But whilst sleeping pills can have a positive impact, they do not deal with the root causes of insomnia and can often lead to dependence, which in of itself can lead to other associated problems.
But our bodies already have the natural mechanisms to allow us to sleep naturally and well – but occasionally these natural mechanisms need a little help operating properly.
The reason why we’re successful at helping clients to resolve insomnia is because we work across both the conscious and unconscious parts of the mind.
Through Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), we work with a clients unconscious mind, or more specifically their belief system, memory and imagination.
Through the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy we also work at a rational and logical level and the combination of the two can be very powerful indeed.
