In the treatment of social anxiety, performance anxiety, health anxiety or other forms of anxiety disorders, it is important to understand that consciously trying to control it through rational thought alone can prove to be difficult.
The reason is that what we focus on we tend to amplify, so trying to think our way out of anxiety can lead to us creating evermore anxiety provoking thoughts, which can only serve to increase the symptoms.
