Typically this relates to a situation where an individual is extremely stressed and that stress peaks during a meeting or presentation. Unfortunately, consciously trying to control this kind of fear or phobia can be extremely difficult and often ends up simply making matters worse. The reason is because what we focus on we tend to amplify, so trying to think our way out of fear typically leads to us increasing the symptoms.
And because the unconscious is so concerned, it starts to widen the criteria for raising the alarm; thus what starts as a fear of presentations can often morph into a fear of smaller, less formal meetings and one to ones.
