MPs call for two booze free days per week
by Elizabeth Smythe
MPs are recommending that British people should have two clear alcohol-free days each week, according to BBC News.
A report by the Commons Science and Technology Committee has made the suggestion, based on "significant concerns" on current safe drinking guidelines.
The committee believes that the existing guides "appeared to endorse daily drinking", as they express maximum alcohol consumption per day, rather than per week. They said claims that drinking was 'good for the heart' were "spurious", highlighting that the drug has been a contributing factor of so many cancers.
Additionally, the Committee called for the creation of a website that calculated personal drinking limits, the Mail Online writes, based on considerations such as height and weight.
Some people may find it extremely difficult to cut alcohol out for two days per week, as many indulge on a glass of wine or two in the evening or do so for overcoming anxiety in social situations.
Those who do find it a struggle might like to seek out professional assistance in the form of hypnotherapy, which can help remove such habits by retraining the subconscious mind and address the root causes for excessive alcohol consumption.
Speaking on the BBC Radio 4 'Today' programme, Committee chairman, Andrew Miller said: "One thing is clear from the scientific evidence we looked at is our bodies recover better if we have a couple of days alcohol-free. This is not a message that says go out binge-drinking - absolutely the opposite.
"A couple of pints a day, seven days a week, is not a good idea - a couple of days free is a good idea."
