A break without the travel

by Sarah Howard

As we are nearing spring - indeed March is actually listed as officially spring - many people are thinking of taking weekend breaks or booking summer holidays. Nevertheless, as The Evening Standard discusses, waiting for a holiday when you are already feeling tired and stressed, can be a mammoth task.

The paper lists anxiety hypnotherapy methods like ''the two hour holiday'' as being an energising and inspiring experience, washing away negative feelings of anger, exhaustion or worry. As well as providing relief from the stresses of everyday life and learning to channel these feelings into positive ones of self confidence and calmness, relaxation treatments such as hypnotherapy can provide an economically viable way to addressing anxiety levels.

In the age of the credit crunch, booking a long weekend in Barcelona or a full blown holiday experience in the Caribbean, can be both economically and ecologically unsustainable. Indeed, whilst one may feel relaxed on a break, as soon as they return to 'real life', original worries can return.

By using treatments such as hypnotherapy, stress levels can be addressed on a long-term basis. As well as an initial treatment, support sessions can be utilised to help a patient combat anxiety throughout all areas of their life, including work situations and in their personal life.

The Evening Standard certainly agrees, with writer Sophie Goodchild describing herself as feeling ''uplifted and inspired'' after just one session.
