London is "angriest city in country"
by William Hobson
Residents of the nation's capital could be in serious need of some targeted hypnotherapy; London has been named the "angriest city" in the UK, according to a new study reported in The Daily Telegraph.
The British Association of Anger Management (BAMM) has published a study based on crime, employment and ONS statistics to highlight areas in the UK where levels of frustration are reaching a dangerous high. According to their findings, Londoners are the UK residents who most often have to choke back feelings of rage, followed by people in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Bristol.
Mike Fisher, director of BAMM, said: "We want to move anger up the political agenda. It is the elephant in the room at the moment, costing the NHS billions in tackling its side effects. Violent incidents alone cost the NHS £2.7bn a year."
"From the amount of calls, emails and website visits we receive, BAMM recognises that anger is not only on the increase but could be reaching pandemic levels.''
Those who suffer from anger problems may be unable to overcome the problem on their own and could benefit from cognitive-behavioural treatment. As well as improving self-esteem, building confidence and overcoming anxiety, anger management is one of the most effective areas of hypnotherapy.
London residents in Lambeth are the angriest people in the city - and therefore in the country - according to the BAMM study; a combination of crime, drugs, population density and unemployment drives frustration and suppressed anger among those living in the borough at the centre of the city It was followed in the 'anger stakes' by the boroughs of Enfield, Barnet, Westminster, Lewisham and Hammersmith & Fulham.
Mike Fisher said that he believed many social issues "such as crime, violence, domestic violence, road rage, addiction, eating disorders, depression and many other mental health issues all stem from our inability as a culture to handle or express our feelings, especially those of anger.''
