Hypnotherapy can help conception
by Sarah Howard
TimesOnline has reported that alternative therapies such as hypnotherapy can be a welcome help to alleviate the stresses associated with attempting to conceive and reduce the need for expensive treatments such as IVF.
Tamara Sturtz reports in The Sunday Times that there are both medical and natural alternatives to IVF that are useful to try before proceeding down that path. Sturtz comments that although many forms of fertility treatment are costly, it is important to try and pursue more natural alternatives first.
Zita West, fertility expert and midwife agrees but mentions that it is important not to bombard oneself with alternative treatments such as aromatherapy or massage and instead recommends a combination of treatments such as hypnotherapy in conjunction with IVF.
Hypnotherapy helped West herself get through months of highly intensive fertility treatment and all the worry associated with the procedure. Anxiety hypnotherapy sends the patient into a deep state of relaxation. It accesses the subconscious area of the brain where positive suggestions can be made.
West utilised hypnotherapy on a daily basis during her third cycle of IVF and conceived soon after. She comments ''I wish I had discovered hypnotherapy when we first started having problems conceiving''.
As well as hypnotherapy, TimesOnline reports that a healthy diet cutting down on caffeine and alcohol will stand one in good stead to getting pregnant. Folic acid and multivitamin supplements are also beneficial.
Rachel Forrest of the Edinburgh Natural Fertility Clinic agrees with The Times' findings, stating that ''we find a multidisciplinary approach works best for our patients - a combination of hypnotherapy, nutrition and acupuncture instead of or alongside more invasive medical procedures - our 47% success rate speaks for itself''.
