Beat Your Fear of Public Speaking

At Therapy Lounge, we use a unique combination of Advanced Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you to rapidly overcome your fear of public speaking.

Through our individual 121 sessions (and if appropriate, followed up by our informal weekly group practice sessions, details of which can be found at the bottom of this page), you can feel altogether calmer, more relaxed and all importantly more confident when you chose to speak in public.

For some, this learning takes place during their formative years, typically as a result of an uncomfortable rush of adrenalin when asked to read in front of a class at school or the like.

As a result of the fear experienced in that moment, the unconscious mind creates an early warning system to protect us. This early warning system is constantly looking for similar circumstances and when recognised, the unconscious tries to warn and protect us through the use of our autonomic nervous system, i.e. our fight and flight mechanism.

But for many this is a new and frightening experience. Many clients describe years of confident public speaking and then the fear and anxiety develops very rapidly.

Typically this relates to a situation where an individual is extremely stressed and that stress peaks during a meeting or presentation. Again, at that moment the unconscious creates an early warning system to warn and protect us, not from getting too stressed generally which was the real cause, but from public speaking specifically.

Unfortunately, consciously trying to control this kind of fear or phobia can be extremely difficult and often ends up simply making matters worse. The reason is because what we focus on we tend to amplify, so trying to think our way out of fear typically leads to us increasing the symptoms.

And because the unconscious is so concerned, it starts to widen the criteria for raising the alarm; thus what starts as a fear of presentations can often morph into a fear of smaller, less formal meetings and one to ones.

Our Public Speaking Groups

Our public speaking workshops are designed to help clients gain courage, confidence and comfort when presenting. 

With a maximum of 12 participants within each group and facilitated by one of our therapists, we provide a unique combination of group-orientated learning, practice, discussion, practice, practice and practice (!).

We are currently operating two groups - one eveing and one lunchtime, usually for 2 hours per session and with no minimum number of sessions or ongoing commitment required - as long as there’s space, you can choose to join us as often as you like. 

We charge a nominal fee of £30 per person per week.

Participants tend to cover a wide spectrum of senior and junior businesses people, professionals, students and assorted others who share one desire - to learn and practice and ultimately feel more courage, confidence and comfort when presenting.
